Travel Itinerary
01 Arrive Anchorage.
Flights from the Lower 48 to Anchorage. Pick-up rental vehicle at the airport, drive to your hotel and check-in. For a lively introduction to Alaskan life, try the Sourdough Mining Company for dinner.
02 Anchorage – Willow
Transfer to the trailhead. The drive up to Willow is very scenic. The road winds up through the Matanuska Valley and continues up north past the town of Wasilla. Our driver will narrate and will cover points of interest along the way. Snowmobiling tour along the frozen Susitna River departs. The river serves as a winter ‘highway’ connecting settlements and villages and we’ll stop in at Northwoods Lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll continue to our lodge, exploring the meadows and valeys along the way. Hotel: Tal Vista Lodge.
03 On the trail
We will depart the Tal Vista Lodge for a full day of backcountry snowmobile riding. Many outstanding options exist in this area which include riding on the frozen river, off trail riding, huge frozen swamps and lakes. The area around the Tal Vista Lodge offers spectacular high country riding with close-up views of the towering Alaska Range Mountains. After dinner, enjoy a crackling fire while stepping out in the snow occasionally to check if the northern lights are dancing with the peaks. Hotel: Tal Vista Lodge.
04 On the trail
Today you’ll enjoy a full day of snowmobile riding which will take you all the way up into the foothills of the majestic Mt. McKinley, the highest Mountain in North America. We'll follow the Skwentna and the Yentna river systems until we reach the Kahiltna River, and then we'll follow the Kahiltna River as it twists and turns further up to the high country. We'll make a nice lunch stop on the trail enroute to the Petersville area. Hotel: Kenny Creek Lodge
05 On the trail
Today your guides will lead you to areas where extensive off-trail riding is available and many areas offer deep, deep untracked snow and spectacular scenery beyond description This afternoon you’ll have opportunities for spectacular photos of Mt. McKinley, tallest in North America at over 20,000ft. Tonight relax outdoors around a fire waiting for the 'Northern Lights' to appear. While in the heart of the Alaska range, this is your best opportunity to view this spectacular phenomenon. Hotel: Kenny Creek Lodge
06 Return to Anchorage
Day Five (Up to 50 miles with breakfast, lunch.)
Your guides will lead you to areas where extensive off-trail riding is available and many areas offer deep, deep untracked snow and spectacular scenery beyond description. Following a hearty lunch, we'll load the machines and vans, then depart for Anchorage.
On arrival, we'll drop you off at your appropriate hotel or at the airport and bid a fond farewell. End.
